Awake & Numb (local anesthetic)
To keep you comfortable during your procedure, a local anesthetic (such as lidocaine) is administered at the surgical site to keep you numb. You will remain totally awake and conscious throughout the procedure. The numbness can last anywhere from 2 to 12 hours depending on the specific type of local anesthesia that is used.
Local anesthesia is commonly used for a variety of cases such as simple tooth extractions, biopsies and other less complicated procedures.
