Facial Cosmetic Procedures > Threadlift

Pre-Operative Instructions and Post-Operative Instructions

The threadlift is an FDA approved outpatient, minimally-invasive procedure that reproduces some of the effects of a traditional facelift. This new approach has been featured in many national magazines and television shows including Good Morning America. It has been utilized in our practice for almost two years.

This technique can give patients a lifting effect by elevating the skin of the cheeks, mid-face and neck for a natural look without the downtime and risks of major surgery.

What areas can be treated with a threadlift?

      • Reposition sagging cheeks
      • Lift drooping soft tissues of the mid and lower face
      • Smooth out premature aging skin
      • Repositioning of sagging jowls

Who Makes a Good Candidate?

The best candidates tend to be women and men in their 30s to 50s who have mild sagging of the cheeks, jowls and neck. A threadlift is ideal for someone who wants a more dramatic result than can be achieved with Botox® and filler injections, or skin tightening laser treatments, but does not want to have traditional cosmetic surgery.

During your consultation Dr. Kuhn will evaluate your face, skin and neck to determine if you are a good candidate for a threadlift. Even though some patients are not ideal for a threadlift alone, it can be used in conjunction with other treatments (fillers, Botox, skin resurfacing) to maximize these less invasive treatments.

Understanding the Procedure

A threadlift takes about an hour to complete. The unique design of the threads gently repositions loose tissue and keeps it in place. Dr. Kuhn will make a tiny incision, usually hidden in the hairline or tucked behind the ear. The threads are placed beneath the skin and advanced toward the ear and hairline to create a firm hold on the underlying tissues. The threads hold the skin by attaching to tissue and are then smoothed into place. Once they are positioned, your body generates new collagen that surrounds each thread to maintain the lifting effect. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia with twilight sedation. The result is a refreshed, rejuvenated and natural look without major surgery.

What are the Advantages of a Threadlift?

A threadlift is a less invasive facial rejuvenation procedure that offers lasting results without visible scars, a long recovery, general anesthesia, or a hospital stay. Another key advantage is the minimal time required to perform a threadlift making it more affordable then traditional facelifts.

Safe and Simple Recovery

Dr. Kuhn will give you instructions to follow to minimize discomfort and speed up the healing process. Ice compresses are recommended for the first 24-48 hours. You will have some mild bruising and swelling. Most patients can return to work or normal activities in less than a week. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for three weeks.

Before & After
These are actual patients of Dr. Kuhn's.

This professional was concerned regarding the heaviness of her forehead, brow and heavy upper lid tissue. Other concerns were regarding the deep lines between the cheek and nose and lack of lip volume. Also note the deep frown lines of the brow adjacent to the eyebrow.

Treatment consisted of endoscopic brow lift, release of the muscles between the eyebrows (surgical Botox), midface threadlift and Radiesse augmentation of the upper and lower lips.

We have re-established the more youthful brow position, upper eyelid crease, increased lip volume and reposition the midface (cheek) skin.

This view gives a good look at the refreshed appearance of the brow and cheek tissues.

Patient presented with genetically very thin and small lips. With age, this has become accentuated.  As you can see, her lip volume has been enhanced but not overdone to create a natural appearance.

PATIENT 2

Young executive desired tightening of early sagging tissues of the neck, cheek and jowl line. These changes were subtle and mild making her an ideal candidate for a threadlift.  A more agressive and invasive face-lifting procedure was not necessary due to her early mild skin changes.

Although no drastic changes are seen, the contour of the neck and lower jaw line are improved. The definition of the jaw line has improved due to threadlifting of both the cheek and jowl as well as the neck.

The nasolabial lines (nose to mouth crease) is dramatically improved due to the repositioning of the cheek tissue.

In this profile view you can appreciate the subtle contour change in the tissues between the chin and neck. The cheek pad lift can also be seen in this view.

Note the improved lift in the area of the corner of the mouth.
